Q: I am going to replace my carpet in our family room. It is badly stained, what can I do to protect my new carpet?
A: It can be treated with a stain blocker. Nylon is one of the toughest fibers and the most popular.  Acrylic is soft, has anti-soiling and anti-static features. Polyester is waterproof, easy to clean, but does not perform as well as the others. Do consider using hard surface flooring. This popular choice and has several advantages. Hard wood, bamboo or cork flooring all add value to your home. The upkeep is minimal and less worry about spills. Complete your look with an area rug.

Q: I really like several different decorating styles can I mix them through out the house? Like a "cottage" kitchen, modern living room, and traditional bedroom?
A: Bedrooms can each have their own style because they are separated from each other. For areas that are open to each other go for flow. It is much more pleasing to the senses if they are consistent in styles.

Q: I want to redo my family room, clear it out and start over and I don't have a clue what colors to use. Help!
A: Start with an inspiration piece; this could be a new sofa, fabric for window treatments, even a candle. Before purchasing big ticket items take a few "window" shopping trips to ensure that you will be able to find coordinating colors and patterns.

FAQ's

Q:  How do I know what size rug to use in my dining room?
A. Dining
room rugs should have at least 24 to 30 inches behind the chairs when they are pushed under the table. This will allow the chairs to remain on the rug when they are pulled out for seating.

Q: My realtor wants me to consider dropping the price of my home $10,000. Is there something else I can do? I've already decluttered, cleaned, painted and even set the dining room table.

A:
Rather than dropping the price, think about adding--something that will really make buyers say "wow" when they see it. You will often make more money by adding something special to your home.
In other words, if your improvement costs you $1,000, instead of losing $10,000 on a price reduction, you've sold your home by "dropping" the price by $1,000.

The average home buyer only spends four minutes previewing a home. You must give them a reason to invest more time and connect emotionally to your home. The more time a buyer spends in a home, the more time they have to think about where their furniture could go.
People will pay more for a home they fall in love with and want to live in.
